Rodney ”Rod” Grissom & Karen Lee

Rod and Karen vanished along Oregon’s Highway 20 in May of 1977, a stretch of road that would later become infamous. The two kiddos were last seen near Lebanon, Oregon, and despite scattered leads over the years, they were never found. Decades later, their disappearance is suspected to be linked to convicted murderer John Ackroyd, a state highway mechanic suspected of being a serial killer who used Highway 20 as his hunting ground.

Rod and Karen’s case remains one of the earliest and most haunting connected to this chilling string of disappearances.

Seven-year-old Kyron Horman vanished from Skyline Elementary School in Portland, Oregon, on June 4, 2010, after attending a morning science fair. Despite becoming the largest criminal investigation in Oregon history, his disappearance remains unsolved. The case is currently under review by the Multnomah County District Attorney's office.

The Disappearance
On the morning of June 4, 2010, Kyron’s stepmother, Terri Horman, drove him to school for an annual science fair. She took a photo of him smiling in front of his red-eyed tree frog science project. Terri stated that she watched him walk down the hallway toward his classroom around 8:45 a.m.

However, Kyron never made it to class and was marked absent. His biological parents, Desiree Young and Kane Horman, did not realize he was missing until the afternoon when he failed to step off his usual school bus.

The Investigation

  • Massive Search: Over 1,300 volunteers and law enforcement personnel, including the FBI, combed through dense wooded areas and parks near the school, but no trace of Kyron was ever found.

  • Focus on the Stepmother: The investigation quickly pivoted toward Terri Horman due to inconsistencies in her timeline. She failed multiple polygraph tests, though she has consistently denied any involvement.

  • Hitman Allegation: During the investigation, it was revealed that a landscaper working for the family claimed Terri had offered him money to kill her husband months prior, though no charges were filed.

  • Burner Phones: Investigators extensively probed the use of prepaid burner phones utilized by Terri and her friends in the weeks following the disappearance, but no arrests were ever made
