Man in the Dunes - Coos County

On May 23, 1998, the body of a white adult male was found in Coos County, Oregon, near Ten Mile Creek, East of Spinreel Park in the sand dunes. He was anywhere from 40 to 60 years old, with short gray hair and a speckling of sandy blonde/red facial hair. He was approximately 5’10” and 175 lbs. He was found wearing Rustler brand blue jeans, white tennis shoes, white socks, and black underwear. There was also a green coat, a Basic Addition brand polo shirt, and a white baseball cap with a blue bill and red “B” for Boston Red Sox were found near his body. No identification, jewelry, or identifying tattoos/scars were found.

Mile Post 251- Coos County

On September 27, 1983, the remains of an adult male were discovered in a heavily wooded area west of Highway 101 at milepost 251 on a northerly slope of a hillside, above a creek bed. This location is close to the Winchester Trail System, 12 miles south of Coos Bay and 1.6 miles north of the intersection of Hwy 101 and West Beaver Hill Road. The remains appeared to have been there for several years; a World Encyclopedia book binding was found with a 1965 date on it.

All remains were recovered, but they were unrecognizable due to decomposition.

A pocket knife, a hunting knife, coins, an auto key, and a heavily rusted and corroded 9mm semi-automatic pistol were near the body. Remnants of clothing on the lower portion of the body.

Remnants of clothing were on the lower body, but no description was provided in the report. Shoes were on the body and stated in the report, but also no description. There was a pocket watch on the body.

The estimated date of death is between 1965 and 1983.

Male Skull - Coos County

In the early 1970s, a private citizen found a partial human cranium when he was a child. On November 18th, 2020, the male skull was turned over to law enforcement.

Bandon 1972 - Coos County

On August 26th, 1972, the skeletal remains of an older Caucasian male were discovered in a brushy area off of HWY 101, North of HWY 101 and HWY 42 junction. One or both hands were not recovered. The estimated height of the male victim is 5 feet 9 inches, and the estimated age is between 50 and 80 years.  A thin, brown leather belt, buckled at 42 inches, was near the body, along with remnants of gray wool socks with green and red stripes at the top. Tan leather lace-up boots with white soles, bearing the “Bilt Rite” brand, were also on the body.  Also, full upper and lower denture plates were found with the skeletal remains, both etched with the number “S1214/66.”

South Jetty 1984 - Coos County

On June 25, 1984, a male jawbone was found at the far west end of the south jetty of Coos Bay in Coos County. The jawbone is thought to be that of a 19-26-year-old male based on the dentition.  None of the other remains were recovered.
